Glowtail is an independent client for Firefly III. Glowtail is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Firefly III.

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains which data Glowtail processes when the application is used.

Glowtail is a client for a Firefly III instance selected and configured by the user. Glowtail does not operate its own server for storing or processing the user's financial data.

3. Connection to Firefly III

To use Glowtail, the user provides the address of a Firefly III instance and a Personal Access Token (PAT).

Glowtail uses this information to communicate with the selected Firefly III instance on behalf of the user.

Depending on the functions used, the following information may be transferred:

This information is not sent to a Glowtail-operated server.

The operator of the Firefly III instance selected by the user is responsible for the processing and storage of data on that instance.

4. Storage of Credentials

The Firefly III server address and Personal Access Token are stored using the secure storage functionality provided by the supported platform.

On Android, Glowtail uses the Secure Storage functionality provided by .NET MAUI, which relies on security mechanisms provided by the Android operating system.

Glowtail does not intentionally store the Personal Access Token in ordinary application preferences, log files, or publicly accessible files.

When the user logs out, the stored Firefly III server address and Personal Access Token are removed from the credential storage used by Glowtail.

5. Locally Stored Settings

Glowtail stores certain application settings locally on the device. These may include:

These settings are used solely to provide and customize application functionality.

Depending on the operating system and device backup configuration, certain non-sensitive application settings may be included in a device backup.

6. Financial Information

Glowtail processes personal financial information only for the purpose of providing functionality requested by the user.

Glowtail does not transmit this financial information to the developer of Glowtail.

7. Advertising, Analytics and Tracking

Glowtail does not use an advertising identifier and does not create user profiles for advertising or analytics purposes.

8. Sharing of Data

Glowtail does not sell personal information.

Glowtail does not share personal or financial information with the Glowtail developer, advertising networks, or analytics providers.

Information is transmitted only as required by functions initiated by the user to the Firefly III instance configured by the user.

9. Network Connections

Glowtail requires a network connection to communicate with the Firefly III instance configured by the user.

The use of HTTPS is recommended because it protects credentials and financial information while they are being transmitted.

If the user chooses to connect to a local or self-hosted Firefly III instance using an unencrypted HTTP connection, transmitted information may potentially be read or modified by other parties on the relevant network.

The user is responsible for the configuration and security of their Firefly III instance and network connection.

10. External Links

Glowtail may contain links to external websites.

This may include a voluntary link allowing users to support the Glowtail project.

When the user opens an external link, they leave Glowtail and interact with a third-party service. The processing of data by that service is governed by the privacy policy of the respective provider.

Glowtail does not transmit Firefly III credentials or financial information to such external services merely by displaying the application.

11. Voluntary Support of the Project

Glowtail may provide an external link through which users can voluntarily support the project financially.

Such support is optional and is not required to use Glowtail.

At present, providing financial support does not grant additional digital functionality, content, features, badges, or other benefits within Glowtail.

Glowtail does not process payment information. Payment processing is handled entirely by the respective external provider.

12. Application Permissions

For its current core functionality, Glowtail requires only ordinary network-related permissions necessary to communicate with the Firefly III instance selected by the user.

13. Data Retention and Deletion

Glowtail does not operate its own user account system or cloud storage for financial information.

Financial information remains stored on the Firefly III instance selected by the user. Retention and deletion of such information are governed by the configuration and functionality of that instance.

Logging out of Glowtail removes the stored Firefly III connection credentials from the credential storage used by Glowtail.

Other locally stored application preferences can be removed by clearing the application's data or uninstalling the application.

Deletion of information stored on a Firefly III instance must be performed through Firefly III or through the operator of the respective instance.

14. Data Security

Glowtail uses security functionality provided by the operating system and .NET MAUI to store credentials.

When HTTPS is used, communication is protected using the standard TLS mechanisms provided by the operating system.

Although reasonable technical measures are used, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

15. Children

Glowtail is not specifically directed at children.

The application is intended for managing personal financial information.

Glowtail does not knowingly collect information from children for advertising, analytics, or profiling purposes.

16. Firefly III

Firefly III is a separate open-source project.

Glowtail is an independent client for Firefly III and is not affiliated with, authorized by, endorsed by, or supported by Firefly III.

Information stored or processed by a Firefly III instance may also be subject to the privacy and operational policies of the operator of that instance.

17. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when application functionality, data processing practices, or legal or technical requirements change.

The current version will be made available through the address provided in the application and/or the relevant application store listing.
